The Fashion and Design Club was founded in 2011. The Club is a meeting place for the senior executives of established luxury fashion brands to discuss business issues with parties outside their brand. Discussion is confidential with Chatham House Rules always being applied.  The Club’s first members were primarily founders, MDs, chairmen, directors and ex-directors of luxury brands. The brands encompass well-known British and European luxury fashion providers, as well as those from China, Japan and the United States.

Membership grew rapidly as members found the Club beneficial, not only as a networking platform and a way of sharing concerns, but also to increase their knowledge of the fashion industry sector.

Meetings were held at a private members’ club in St James.  Part of each meeting was assigned to leading experts in the field; individuals who presented their knowledge and experience on a variety of topics selected by the Fashion and Design Club members. Presenters are senior executives from luxury fashion brands, partners in legal or financial firms, consultants, or CEO’s operating businesses that supplied services to the brands.

In 2015, the Luxury Fashion Insider, a newsletter in English, was available as another resource for Club members.  The articles are written by experts working for luxury fashion brands as well as professional advisors with a solid knowledge base of the fashion world.

In 2014, the Fashion and Design Club commissioned the series of independent books on luxury fashion and design brands. There are currently 80 plus books in various stages of development, ranging from the big names such as Gucci, Chanel, Hermes, Burberry to smaller brands like Erdem, Temperley London and Christopher Kane.

The series of eBooks called  Inside the Brand TM provide educational support for fashion and design students on the wider aspects of a luxury brand. The books aim to cover the fundamentals of what students need to know about a brand: its history, the brand’s most iconic designs, marketing and social media, key people in management, and business issues including legal issues, in most cases detailed financial figures. The books also analyse strategies that have been both successful and those which have led to failure for brands. All books are researched and developed by ex-fashion students and other contributors. The fashion brands are not involved in the development, sponsorship or advertising of any Fashion and Design Club eBook in any way.

All brands receive a copy of their book prior to publication. This provides the brand with the opportunity to submit feedback should they consider any part of the manuscript to be inaccurate.

The Fashion and Design Club Inside the Brand TM books are designed to be provocative and thought-provoking for students and others interested in luxury fashion. As an educational resource, the books will inform, stimulate discussion and offer a broader perspective into the world of luxury fashion.

The Fasion and Design Club has also initiated other projects to assist both newly-launched and established, small fashion brands.

Fashion and Design Club  researchers have written 85 eBooks on these luxury fashion brands, with many more in the pipeline. The content of these books provides some historical background and product information. What underpins our fashion titles, however, is a focus on the management, finance and strategic operation of each brand.

Iayn has been the secretary of The Fashion and Design Club since its inception in December 2010.  He has worked as a consultant for several luxury fashion brands.  Iayn was mentored by possibly the leading expert in transforming brands.  Iayn's mentor was educated at both Harvard and MIT and taught at Stanford before working in the industry.
